The Miracle

The Miracle

Every drop of rain that falls in Sahara Desert says it all... It's a miracle
All God's creations great and small
The Golden Gate and the Taj Mahal... That's a miracle
Test tube babies being born, mothers, fathers dead and gone... It's a miracle

We're having a miracle on earth, mother nature does it all for us
The wonders of this world go on, the hanging Gardens of Babylon
Captain Cook and Cain and Able, Jimi Hendrix to the Tower of Babel
It's a miracle, it's a miracle, it's a miracle... oh yeah
It's a miracle

The one thing we're all waiting for is peace on earth - an end to war
It's a miracle we need - the miracle
The miracle we're all waiting for today

If every leaf on every tree could tell a story that would be a miracle
If every child on every street had clothes to wear and food to eat... That's a miracle
If all God's people could be free to live in perfect harmony... It's a miracle

We're having a miracle on earth, mother nature does it all for us
Open hearts and surgery, sunday mornings with a cup of tea
Super powers always fighting, but Mona Lisa just keeps on smiling
It's a miracle, it's a miracle, it's a miracle
(wonders of this world go on)
It's a miracle, it's a miracle, it's a miracle... It's a miracle

The one thing (the one thing) we're all waiting for (we're all waiting for)
Is peace on earth (peace on earth) and an end to war (an end to war)
It's a miracle we need - the miracle
The miracle, peace on earth and end to war today

That time will come one day you'll see when we can all be friends
That time will come one day you'll see when we can all be friends
That time will come one day you'll see when we can all be friends
That time will come one day you'll see when we can all be friends

Rantega, Fack, Jack, Homer.

A train ride down memory lane
On a train from Manchester to Holyhead, in Wales, I came across this little guy. He and his grandparents got on in Bangor. They sad two rows in front me. The child immediately reminded me of myself. Getting on the train is a celebration. We, I presume, both regard the train as a magical object. When you come aboard it right away transforms your state of mind and emotion. It gives you like no other mode of transport, the sensation of traveling through our world while having your own quiet seat at the window. A train makes everything grand. As somebody once said: ,,Even a moldy sandwich tastes great on a train!” (Thanks: Philip!)

I said they sad, but that not entirely true. The small boy was – right from pulling out of Bangor – more or less glued to the window. Not wanting to miss anything we passed. And when a highway came along, you can understand his fascination as we were passing car after speeding car. He had the same fascination I had as a child with riding through towns and cities. Seeing all those houses and stations flashing by. Sometimes stopping for a red signal or a station. I made it my little job to know all those places by heart. Therefore, I always asked my mother for the timetable’ small railroad map. And during my trips on the train I corrected and completed those basic maps with pencil to a detailed work of art. Making it look like Captain Cook’ or Albel Tasman’ historic maps, with only the rim near the railway drawn.

I noticed that same kind of devotion and commitment in this boy. It was lovely to see and to be reminded of it in a train. Yes, a train makes everything grand. Of course this was abruptly ended when we pulled in into Holyhead, never having exchanged a word or a simple glance of recognition. So, I can ‘now’only say: Many thanks and till next time on the train…
